Laser Hair Removal
Long-Term Hair Reduction • Smoother Skin • Less Shaving
Tired of constantly shaving, waxing, or dealing with unwanted hair? Laser hair removal uses targeted light energy to reduce unwanted hair growth for smoother skin and less day-to-day maintenance.
Treatments can be customized for many areas of the face and body, from small areas such as the upper lip and chin to larger areas including the legs, back, chest, and bikini area.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a light-based treatment designed to provide long-term reduction of unwanted hair.
Unlike shaving, which removes hair at the surface, or waxing, which temporarily removes hair from the follicle, laser hair removal targets the hair follicle itself during its active growth phase.
Because hair grows in different cycles, a series of treatments is necessary to progressively reduce hair growth.
How Does It Work?
Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color.
Light energy is absorbed by the pigment within the hair and converted into heat. This heat damages the targeted hair follicle, reducing its ability to produce new hair.
This is also why hair color matters.
Hair that contains more pigment—such as dark brown or black hair—typically responds best because there is more melanin available for the treatment to target.
Very light blonde, white, gray, and many red hairs contain little or insufficient targetable pigment and may respond poorly or not at all to treatment.
Your skin tone, hair color, hair thickness, treatment area, medications, medical history, and other factors are evaluated before treatment to determine whether laser hair removal is appropriate for you.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Laser hair removal can be used on many areas of the face and body, including:
Underarms
Upper lip
Chin and jawline
Facial hair
Bikini line
Brazilian area
Legs
Arms
Chest
Abdomen
Back
Shoulders
Neck
Treatment areas and candidacy are determined during consultation.
What Should I Expect?
The treatment area is typically shaved prior to your appointment so the energy can target pigment within the hair follicle rather than hair sitting above the skin.
During treatment, you may feel brief warmth or a snapping sensation as the device delivers energy to the treatment area.
Afterward, mild redness or temporary sensitivity around the follicles may occur. Most clients can return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment.
Over the following days to weeks, treated hairs gradually shed. With each treatment, hair growth may become progressively finer and less dense.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Laser hair removal is not a one-treatment procedure.
The treatment is most effective on hairs that are in the active growth phase, and not every hair is in that phase at the same time. For this reason, multiple sessions spaced according to the treatment area and individual hair-growth cycle are typically recommended.
The number of treatments needed varies depending on the treatment area, hair color and thickness, skin type, hormones, and individual response.
Maintenance treatments are typically needed over time to help maintain your results. The frequency varies from person to person and may be influenced by the treatment area, hormonal changes, and individual hair-growth patterns.
Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
Laser hair removal is best described as providing long-term or permanent hair reduction rather than guaranteeing complete permanent hair removal.
Many treated follicles may stop producing hair, while others may eventually produce hair that is finer or lighter than before. Hormonal changes can also stimulate new hair growth over time, which is another reason maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Who Is Not a Good Candidate?
Laser hair removal may not be effective for everyone.
Because the treatment relies on pigment within the hair, white, gray, very light blonde, and some red hair may not respond adequately to treatment.
A consultation is important before purchasing a treatment series so we can evaluate your hair and skin and determine whether you are likely to benefit from treatment.
